Winter is in full swing on the North Shore of Oahu which means that the winter swells are going to be pounding the North side. So many preventable rescues occur because too many people ignore these signs. These are pretty much up year round but so many people ignore them.

For your safety please stay out of the water, especially when the north pacific swells wake up the North Shore surf spots.

Listen to the life guards.

I can't say this enough, listen to the North shore life guards. If you have never been in the ocean, the North Shore is not a good place for you to even try to go out.

Island waves are very powerful, there is no continental shelf to slow the underwater energy from the north pacific, so even a 2 foot wave is powerful enough to knock someone down and drag them out to sea.

If you have never surfed before, the North Shore in winter is definitely NOT the place for you to learn.

If you have little kids, DO NOT under ANY circumstances, bring them to the North shore and allow them to play near the water when there is a swell. Seriously just DO NOT.

If in doubt, KEEP YOUR ASS IN WAIKIKI... There's enough traffic up on Kam highway already. 🤪
